Current Projects

Makle Park

The Board is presently approving plans and construction documents for the Makle Park renovation based on a $ 109,000 PA State Grant received in 2004.

Roller Park

A roller park has been the dream of a number of enthusiastic youth and willing elected officials for the past four years.  In celebration of its centennial Rotary International has provided a very generous donation to make this dream a reality. Through a PA State Technical Grant a roller park consultant has provided the Parks & Recreation Board and the youth with the guidance needed to select a site, view several manufacturers’ product lines and create a plan of action.  The north end of Commerce Street is slated for development of the roller park.  The roller park is presently being designed by its future participants in cooperation with the park consultant.  The stationary equipment will be capable of being reconfigured as needed when additional equipment is purchased or as participant interest evolves.

Playground Association

2006 is the planned return of a summer-based recreational & educational program for Columbia youth.  Recreational activities, intramural sports, local field explorations & research, wellness, nutrition, and community service are a sampling of the interactive components being planned.

Funding and local support will be critical to the success and expanding scope of the program.
