Veterans Memorial Bridge Lighting
The project entails removal of the 1060 era cobra-head lamps and replacement of them with replicas of the original decorative light fixtures. This will dramatically improve the visitor’s first impression of the area. The project will restore and preserve the historic authenticity of the Veterans’ Memorial Bridge.
Columbia Borough, Wrightsville Borough and West Hempfield Township entered into an agreement to establish the parties responsibilities with respect to the design, construction and maintenance of the electrical roadway lighting system to replace the existing system on the bridge.
Upon a federal award of $2,305,000.00 the Borough of Columbia assumed the responsibility of administering the grant. The project was bid and Kuharchik Construction was awarded the project. Lights on either end of the bridge have been installed and the contractor is currently waiting for the remaining lights as they are backordered. The project is set to finish prior to June 2014.
