The Civil Service Commission prescribes, amends and enforces the rules and regulations of the Borough of Columbia for their police force. All rules and regulation must first be approved by the Borough Council. The Commission is responsible for every appointment and promotion in the police force within the Borough according to qualifications and fitness by examination on a competitive basis. They also hear civil service complaints according to the Local Agency Hearing Law. The commission consists of four members, appointed by the Borough Council for a six-year term.
